Article Processing Charges (APC)

The International Journal of Artificial Intelligence & Knowledge Engineering (IJAIKE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal dedicated to advancing global research in artificial intelligence and knowledge engineering. To ensure high-quality publishing and global accessibility without cost barriers for readers, IJAIKE applies a flexible, size-based Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted manuscripts.

Why an APC?

As an open-access journal, IJAIKE does not charge subscription fees. Instead, the APC covers the validation, enrichment, production, and preservation of your work, including:

  • Submission and double-blind peer review management
  • Editorial development, ethical validation, and plagiarism screening
  • Copyediting, typesetting, data normalization, and formatting
  • DOI registration, abstracting, and indexing
  • Legal deposit and long-term digital archiving
  • Platform maintenance and open-access dissemination
  • Curation and display of article-level metrics for reach and impact analysis

The APC ensures every published article is rigorously reviewed, professionally presented, and permanently accessible—without paywalls—for the global research community.

APC Calculation Structure

Unlike fixed-fee journals, JAIKE uses a flexible APC model that reflects the actual size and complexity of each accepted manuscript:

APC = (Number of formatted text pages) × Rate per text page + (Number of figures and tables) × Illustration rate

For APC calculation purposes, each illustration or table submitted along with the manuscript is counted as a page. For consistency across various submissions, each part of a multi-part Table or Figure is also counted as a single page.

This fee is calculated only after the manuscript is accepted and the final revised version is submitted in compliance with the Author Submission Guidelines.

There are no fees for initial submission or peer review. APC applies only at the final publication stage.

Each year, we set the text and illustration rates at the start of the year to partially offset the JAIKE Journal’s management and publication expenses. For the first four inaugural issues, the article processing charge for both text and illustration pages is a flat $99 per page. Color images and figures are billed at twice the black-and-white rate.

Editorial Stewardship & Publishing Values

As part of our editorial responsibility, IJAIKE invests APC revenue back into:

  • Supporting editorial offices and boards
  • Enhancing peer review technologies and recognition systems
  • Funding global registration and standard-setting organizations
  • Sustaining digital infrastructures that ensure the long-term preservationand free public access to all published articles

Our mission is to uphold the scholarly record and empower future innovation by making research freely available and permanently citable.

Reviewer Recognition

IJAIKE gratefully acknowledges the critical role of peer reviewers, whose time and insights are offered voluntarily as part of professional service and scholarly engagement. Although reviewers are not financially compensated, APC funds support the infrastructure required to manage, recognize, and reward high-quality peer review.

In some cases—such as accelerated publication options—where additional editorial or review support is required, a higher APC may apply. Authors will be notified in advance.

Waivers & Discounts

To promote equity in research publishing, IJAIKE offers partial APC waivers to:

  • Authors from low-income or lower-middle-income economies (as defined by the World Bank)
  • Early-career researchers or students lacking institutional support
  • Authors of manuscripts deemed to have exceptional potential impact

Requests should be submitted at the time of manuscript submission via Editor-in-Chief@ijaike.com, with an explanation of eligibility.

Invoicing & Payment

Upon final manuscript acceptance, an official invoice will be issued based on the APC calculation. Accepted payment methods include:

  • Credit/debit card
  • Bank transfer
  • PayPal (upon request)

All fees must be settled before publication scheduling.

Refund Policy

Since the APC supports services rendered during peer review and production, IJAIKE does not issue refunds once the payment has been processed and the publication workflow is underway.
